The Beginning

My mom sent me to a swim camp at Stanford University when I was about 11 years old. I really did not care to be at that camp, because I was not all that interested in swimming at the time. However, attending this camp would forever change my own life. As I was in the cafeteria eating lunch, one of the camp-goers that I had befriended pulled out a miniature skateboard toy and was pretending to do tricks. I thought it looked pretty cool, and asked if he had anymore, which he did and gave me one for $3. From that point on, I was hooked.

During middle-school it seemed like everyone fingerboarded. During lunch, my friends and I would try to replicate tricks from the latest 411vm we watched. Fingerboarding for me has always been much more fun as a social activity than an individual activity. Throughout my time fingerboarding I have always had friends around me who fingerboard as well. Some of them started fingerboarding on their own, others started because I got them into it.

I'd like to hear your own relationship with fingerboarding. Why did you start fingerboarding? How did you get introduced to the hobby?

it was at 1998 or 1999 when thps released in germany. Two of my best friends got a psx and we played that game-demo. Soon we wanted to do that tricks in real life, so we started skateboarding. One day one of the both friends showed us a keychain-fingerboard. i was fascinated and wanted to have one. I saved my money and was pissed off when i "just" got that "TechDeck" and not such a cool keychain-fingerboard. I paid like 12,50 Euro for my Techdeck from Generation 2. My friends stopped fingerboarding soon, after some years they stopped skating too. In 2002 or 2003 after 3 or 4 years fingerboarding on my own i discovered fingerboarding in the internet. I was totally stoked... and the rest is history XD

a month later i bought my first berlinwood. i have also put i few of my friends in fingerboarding.
And when it is raining they come to my place to fingerboard and have fun, because rain isn't very good for your skateboard xD

2 or 3 years ago I bought some TD's with my friends and we were playing with our little skateboards at school (I remember we sucked ass, like riding with 3 fingers and landing with all the fingers lol). We quickly stop it. Last year, I was reeally bored when I was on the internet, and I wrote "fingerskate" on YouTube.
The first video I saw was Elias assmuth riding the BRR G6. I was absolutely amazed by his style and tricks. When I was at school with TD's I didn't think it can be possible to do kickflips, heelflips, and all those tricks.
So I took my tech deck and go practicing. Then I never gave up.

Then at Apple Bees I changed the wheels and started fingerboarding with three fingers like crazy. Then my dad yelled at me to put it away. It got stolen at woodward =[. I took a long break and in Febuary I started again with a close up and a marble bench.

It was in the beginning of 10'th grade, and our class had a traditional trip to Poland And Germany, while in Germany is started to think what i could get my hands on to keep me occupied during the hours coming up in our bus. So i went and bought me a Tech Deck, i fooled around with it in the bus and had fun. When i got home i found myself fingerboarding many hours, than i searched for it on youtube, and i found Mike Schneider's '' Interior Crocodile Aligator '' vid, and i got more interested, one or two weeks later i went and bought a Close-up from fingerboardstore.de and i got hooked. Now this is my favorite hobby :)

When me and some of my friends started skating in like march 2006, one of them brought a techdeck to school, and within a few days we had like 8 fingerboarders in class.
Although some of them quitted fingerboarding as fast as they had once started, the following summer pretty much fully consisted of skate- and fingerboarding, with everyday sessions with 5-10 skaters and fingerboarders, building new ramps (for both types of boards), and like everyday someone learned a new trick. Looking back it must have been a truly awesome time :)

i first got into it when me and my friend were hanging out at school in the 6th grade, and then i pulled out a tech deck. i wasnt serious and never imagined there was such thing as "wood decks". me and my friend got into it and had a great time with them. of course we sucked we didnt even know it was possible to do tricks without using your thumb lol. then the next year i was really into skateboarding, it was raining one day and i saw that my friend had a vid on youtube that day of him fingerboarding, thats when i decided to learn how to ollie and stuff. i started to learn and was fingerboarding with my friend in art the next day, and this other kid was watching and also got into it with me. he became one of my best friend to this day and we fingerboard alot, we fingerboarded more for like two months, and then i "quit", mainly because most of my other friends hated it, but i told them around late april that if they dont like me because i fingerboard then they can fuck off. so they stayed as my friends as really dont give a shit anymore. still my one friend is the only one who knows a lot about the scenery in fingerboarding

My story is wierd. I started making fingerboards as keychains a long time ago. I have always skateboarded so i decided to try a few of the new tricks i had in mind on the fingerboards i was making. Let's face it when you have an epic failure on a fingerboard it isn't the same as on a real board. After that i started trying to make the decks more realistic and such. You have to think back then we had wood trucks and old wheels off of any spare hotwheels we could find. As time went on i kept trying to get better and better at it. But that is how i got into fingerboarding.

Most of them quit, but i kept going, and discovered mike schneiders videos on youtube, and switched from three fingers to two. I'm hooked. FB for life.
