Sponsorship Motivation Revisited

I get asked every day if I could help someone get a sponsorship, or even if I can sponsor people. I feel that too many people emphasize the 'need' to get sponsorships. There are a few reasons why people want to get sponsored.

- Get free stuff
- Respect

Both of these reasons I feel are the wrong reason to get sponsored.
I've learned a couple of things about sponsorship over my fingerboarding career. It's very nice be sponsored, but if that's your sole reason of fingerboarding than you should quit.

There have been times where I felt discouraged about sponsorships. At times I had no one sponsoring me, and I was really focused on trying to get one. I was so focused on trying to get a sponsorship that I lost sight of why I fingerboarded in the first place.

Why do I fingerboard?

I fingerboard because I love it. It's as simple as that. Each fingerboard event that I have attended has provided me with a different outlook. This past Rendezvous has provided me with a fresh perspective on fingerboarding. I am amazed to see how a finger skateboard can bring so many people together. I met so many people and made a bunch of friendships that I feel will last forever ^_^ If this is not the true reason to fingerboard, then I don't know what is!

Fingerboard is fun, and it fills my days. My holidays, my working break, and even when I go with my girlfriend.

That's why I love fingerboard so much. I didn't do it for sponsorship or even money. I just want to do what I like and meet you guys (although only from internet). and knowing that a lot of great people that have same passion with me.

That is the reason why I try to make Fingerboard scene in my country (Indonesia) bigger. to spread the love and the joy of fingerboarding.

maybe I don't need a sponsorship, but we do need something (i don't know what and how) that can support us, like quality boards, ramps and stuffs. Cause we only ride TD and homemade ramps.

cheers

For me i am a new fingerboarder, i believe that chris is right an i have been thinking wow mike shcnieder or chris daniels or pat mcginn is sooo cool because they have sponsor ships, but really the only reason they are cool is because they ride for fun and then organize get togethers to make freinds and learn through the art of fingerboarding... I do have to sa it would be nice to get sponsored forthe free stuff because i find fingerboard equipment is expensive. (i know that if you love the sport you dont need the extra stuff)

you're one hundred percent right dude. I started fingerboarding just to have something to do (while I couldn't skate[board], broken arm ]: ) then it got more interesting. I did it more and more. then I learned about fingerboard sponsors, and wanted one. I would get so pissed off at myself if I couldn't film a trick for a try-out, and, even if I still want to try out, I have to not be so worried about making it. I'm only sponsored by Ollie North cause I was decent and knew another dude from there. But now that I've gotten so much better, I feel that I earn it everyday. I want to get sponsored by known companies, but it's not everything. I'll just do it to do it :)

I dont wish to be sponsored but getting a wooden fingerboard has to be the hardest thing I ever tried to do. Fingerboarding is one of the coolest things Ive ever tried despite having a teck deck and noone who loves fingerboarding as much as me around me. Just looking at this site makes me happy and pushes me to keep fingerboarding so who needs sponsors!

man that is so true. my friend got sponsered just for the free stuff, and so he could brag about it. you should just put up a video of you having fun, if you get sponsered thats great.ya the free stuff is cool but if you love fingerboarding then thats the right reason.

Believe me, I am not looking for a spondership.......I just enjoy my son and all of you having fun and having it in positive way.

I will not agree on it. I regard as precise post. Expressly the title attracted me to review the sound story.
